And so with howls of indignation the media have sliced Brown open, extracted their apology on the steps of Gillian Duffy's house and will continue to cover an election scrutinising the character of Gordon Brown.
24 hours on, it just seems ridiculous. The Euro is potentially facing collapse. The deficit (Gillian Duffy's main concern yesterday when she spoke to the PM) is massive. Whoever the Chancellor is after Thursday 6th May is going to be delivering some very bad news shortly after taking office.
Hung parliament? Who knows at this stage; but it did feel like the drubbing of Brown yesterday was designed to smooth the way for David Cameron to take over.
With any luck, sometime soon somebody will start to talk about the economy. Oh look, there's a debate tonight...
